Is the LG CX 4K or 8K?

The LG CX OLED is a 4K TV with a native resolution of 3,840 x 2,160.

The only 8K OLED TV that LG currently produces is the LG SIGNATURE ZX 8K OLED.

Does the LG CX support 1440p?

The LG CX doesn’t natively support a resolution of 1440p.

But Rings.com have confirmed that a resolution of 1440p can be displayed if forced using an nVidia control panel.

Does the LG CX support 10-bit or 12-bit color?

The LG CX natively supports up to 10-bit color, but it will accept 12-bit inputs and resolve it to 10-bit.

All the ports on the LG CX handle 10-bit 4K at 120Hz with 4:4:4 chroma sampling.  This requires just 40 Gbps of bandwidth

A 12-bit color depth requires the ‘full-fat’ version of HDMI 2.1 which is 48 Gbps of bandwidth.  This is supported on the LG C9 OLED.

Is the LG CX 120Hz?

The LG CX has a refresh rate of 120Hz and can interpolate lower frame rate content up to 120fps.

Is the LG CX HDR?

The LG CX supports HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG HDR formats.  But it doesn’t support HDR10+.

HDR movies and gaming are excellent on the LG CX and displays a very wide color gamut.

This means that TV can and does display a wide range of colors in HDR mode.

How bright is the LG CX?

The LG CX has a brightness of between 294 and 308 cd/m² (nits) when the Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL) is turned off (according to Rtings.com).

Whilst this is good for an OLED TV, you may want to consider a QLED if you wish to position the TV in direct sunlight as they can get much brighter.

The direct sunlight can also damage OLED pixels.

But the LG CX does have decent reflection handling so you shouldn’t have any problems viewing it in a bright room.

Does the LG CX need calibration?

The LG CX doesn’t explicitly need calibrating as many TVs come close to the standards that directors and filmmakers intended to see.

In fact, one user in the OLED subreddit contacted multiple hollywood colorists and all of them said that the C series were the ‘best calibrated TVs out of the factory of all time’.

That being said, calibration carried out by a certified professional can improve the picture.

But how much the picture will improve depends on how accurate the settings were in the first place.

Calibrating a TV can cost over $100, so is only really worthwhile if you have a high end TV and you are a user that demands peak performance from your TV.

Does the LG CX have VRR?

The LG CX supports FreeSync and G-SYNC VRR (Variable Refresh Rate).

The LG CX also supports HDMI Forum VRR.

This enables VRR when you connect devices that support VRR over HDMI such as a games console or PC.

Does the LG CX have burn in issues?

Most users should not have any burn in issues with the LG CX.  This is especially the case if the TV is watched normally and the content is varied.

LG have been very upfront about image retention or burn-in and have stated that it can happen with almost any display, not just OLEDs.

They have also said that it is rare for a consumer to create the conditions that would lead to burn in on one of their TVs.

For this to be possible, LG stated that users would have to leave static images on their screens for many hours or days at a time and with peak levels of brightness.

That being said, you do get a 40W speaker system in total including a 20W subwoofer (2.2 channels).

The TV also includes an AI Acoustic Tuning setting which uses the microphone on the remote to calibrate the sound.

The LG CX also supports Dolby Atmos.

Is the LG CX compatible with the Sonos Arc?

For Apple devices, the LG CX supports AirPlay 2.

Does the LG CX have a camera?

The LG CX does not have a built-in camera.

How many HDMI ports does the LG CX have?

Does the LG CX have HDMI 2.1?

The LG CX has four HDMI 2.1 ports but they only support 40 Gbps of bandwidth and not the 48 Gbps of bandwidth provided by the ‘full-fat’ version of HDMI 2.1.

This shouldn’t be a problem in most cases because most content only goes up to 10-bit color.

Very high end gamers will be affected by this, but visually, it can be difficult to tell the difference between 10-bit and 12-bit color.

Does the LG CX have eARC?

Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) is supported on HDMI 2.

The LG CX can receive and pass a Dolby Atmos signal through to a receiver using eARC via TrueHD.

  • The LG C1 has the latest and faster Gen 4 AI-enhanced processor.  It helps to improve contrast and is more effective at upscaling standard definition content.
  • The LG C1 has an input lag boost mode to further reduce input lag and a ‘Game Optimiser’ interface allowing tweaks to be made on a per-game basis.

The Auto Low Latency Mode on the CX means that it will switch to gaming mode automatically when a compatible device is connected.

In gaming mode, input lag is 6.7ms at 4K and 120Hz which is incredible.

With a Variable Refresh Rate, the input lag remains low at 5.9 ms at 4K (according Rtings.com).

The LG CX is very good for watching sports, even with a large group of people watching because it has wide viewing angles.

The LG CX also delivers exceptional picture quality due to the near-infinite contrast ratio that produces perfect, inky blacks.

Although OLED TVs aren’t as bright as LED TVs, the LG CX still performs well in bright environments because of its excellent reflection handling.

This is particularly welcome news for sports fans that might want to watch games in well-lit rooms during the day time.

Whilst there’s currently no way to remove this, it is possible to use the gallery app and shuffle through the pictures without it displaying the “no signal” message.
